FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Scott County Partnership seeks volunteer teachers for new health class at Scottsburg Middle School

Scottsburg, Indiana – September 25, 2013 – Scott County Partnership, Public Health graduate student, Katie Gasiorowski, and the Purdue Extension are teaming up to jump start health education at Scottsburg Middle School. This January, there will be a new class at SMS, called Jump Start. Jump Start is a 10 week health and nutrition class for 6th graders that will be held during study hall. The class is designed so that it can be facilitated retired teachers, community members, or instructional aids. The Partnership is looking for volunteers from the community to make this class possible. The goal is for each volunteer to teach one lesson. They would be responsible for coming in the week of their lesson and teaching on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the scheduling is very flexible!

Scott County ranks 92 out of 92 counties in Indiana for health outcomes. Due to lack of funding, SMS had closed their Family and Consumer Science classes in 2011. Partner with us to jump start healthy living in Scott County and fill the void at SMS!
If you would like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact Ali Brown at 812-752-8926 (Ext. 6010) or at ali.brown@scottcountypartnership.org. An informational meeting/training session for the volunteers will be held at SMS in Room 200 on January 9, 2014 at 3:30.
